The Red Lantern Bike Shop’s name derives from the bicycle race, the Tour de France. The rider who comes in last place during this race is awarded the lanterne rouge (red lantern) honoring that instead of quitting the race, they fought through and finished.
We like to think of ourselves in this way, as we believe that everyone deserves to have access to bicycles for fun, exercise, and/or transportation regardless of their financial circumstances. We are also believers in environmental stewardship and try and reuse or recycle all donated parts.
